\"\"<\/a>Sixty-four years ago, Gaylen and Elva Wright bought Chick\u2019s Caf\u00e9 in Heber, Utah. In 2004, Gaylen passed away and Elva put the caf\u00e9 in the hands of her daughter, Shelley, and daughter-in-law, Lynette. Now in 2018, Chick\u2019s Caf\u00e9 is still serving up breakfast, lunch and dinner on Heber\u2019s Main Street.<\/p>\n

Named for a little old lady that worked in the caf\u00e9 before the Wright\u2019s purchased it, Chick\u2019s still features homemade goodness. Shelley explains, \u201cMy mom made the pies; now, Lynette\u2019s sister makes them. We\u2019re all homemade.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shelley started working at Chick\u2019s when she was 14 years old. At almost 60, she is proud to say, \u201cI\u2019ve never had another job.\u201d She and Lynette go in every day to keep Chick\u2019s \u201crunnin\u2019 the same way,\u201d with their mama\u2019s scones and chicken fried steak.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a lot of family,\u201d notes Shelley, \u201cthat\u2019s a blessing.\u201d Lynette comes from a family of six girls; fi ve of them have worked at Chick\u2019s. Elva, Shelley\u2019s mom, had five sisters; four of them worked at Chick\u2019s. She notes that \u201cMy dad taught his grandkids a strong work ethic in the caf\u00e9.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shelley explains, \u201cI love the people. You get to know so many people. You get to know their lives. You worry about them when they don\u2019t come in.\u201d She describes the heartbreak she felt when a couple in their nine-ties stopped coming. \u201cThey\u2019d been coming in since the Olympics, then his eyes got too bad to drive. We miss them.\u201d<\/p>\n

With Shelley\u2019s nieces working, the cafe is home to…four generations of “chicks.”<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
